About Me

This is why Murad Osmann’s "follow me to" Instagram photos went viral. Viewers felt like they were the ones being led around the world by a beautiful woman. Learning how to capture these subjects through photos helps convey the spirit of a place to others, giving them a glimpse of what it might be like to venture there. You should keep in mind that particularly famous locations have been shot countless times – and used countless times in campaigns, too. It’s worth taking a little time to search for unique perspectives, such as the example above, for results that are more distinctive and original. Try a fast or a slow shutter speed than what you’d normally use.

This is sometimes easy to forget in the heat of the moment. Typically, on a mountain hunt, you have set yourself up with the advantage, ideally with a shooting position above the unsuspecting ram, billy, or buck. When an opportunity is at hand, it can be easy to rush and bumble in the excitement, but resist this with all your might. Even in situations that require you to act quickly, try to do it in as slow and calculated a manner as possible. Set your rest, take a second to slow your breathing, and only shoot when you are ready. Do not let a guide or buddy pressure you into taking too quick of a shot.

If you’re still uncertain about the technical camera terminology, check out some of our tutorials. We hope our mountain photography tips are everything you need to take your landscape photography to the next level. It’s tempting to opt for the beautiful sunrise or sunset, but that’s heavily overdone. There are a few things you can do to make your mountain photos stand out. However, it may take a little extra effort, but it will all be worth it when you have that perfect shot.

Everyone's picture is going to be different because each photographer has their own way of shooting. Where ever you go, always look up at night and see how you think the shot should look, not how the popular opinion says it should look. I live and play on the shared unceded territory of the Skwxwú7mesh and Lil̓wat7úl (Lil’wat) Nations, home to ancient sacred forests and all-encompassing mountainscapes. My commercial photography is mostly action sports and landscapes.

But in all fairness, I won’t deny that I had second thoughts as I set up my tripod on the edge. If you are ever near Page Arizona, then this is a stop that you really have to make…it is a visual and emotional powerhouse! If so, then read further for my Horseshoe Bend Photo Guide and tips.

Light is the most important thing to consider when taking your photos.

I hope it’s useful for your own travels and would love to hear in the comments about your trips and experiences around the world. It can be difficult to use auto focus when the scene is really white so just double check yours shots to ensure they’re nice and sharp. To focus, sometimes in snow you’ll have to find a contrasting colour, rock or building edge to focus on rather than aiming at the pure white snow.
